SATO MOUGHALIAN: Flutist Bio
Flutist Sato Moughalian has a multi-faceted career, performing as a chamber musician, solo and orchestral player, and is active in the New York new music and freelance community. She joined Quintet of the Americas in 1999, is a core member of American Modern Ensemble and has appeared as guest with numerous groups including Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Richardson Chamber Players, New York Chamber Ensemble, Dorian Quintet, CounterInduction, Amadeus Virtuosi, and has toured on five continents. She serves as solo flute of Gotham Chamber Opera, Opera Français de New York, and the Colonial Symphony. She has performed as guest principal flute with groups including American Ballet Theatre, American Symphony Orchestra, Westfield Symphony, and the Orquestra Sinfonico do Estado São Paulo, Brazil with whom her recording of the Villa-Lobos, Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6, recently released on the BIS label. Her most recent CD chamber music release is Star Crossing-Music of Robert Paterson, on the American Modern label. Ms. Moughalian is a member of MAYA, a trio of harp, flute and percussion, with Bridget Kibbey and John Hadfield, performing newly-commissioned pieces and works drawn from different world cultures. She performed Bach sonatas with pianist Diane Walsh for Lincoln Center's Great Performers Bach Festival, and has recorded chamber music for Sony Classics, Newport Classics, Albany, and New World Records, and a solo CD, The Operatic Flute with pianist Mikael Eliasen. Ms. Moughalian is Artistic Director of Perspectives Ensemble, presented at the 92nd St. Y, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center Great Performers' Series, Miller Theatre, Guggenheim Museum, and the Morgan Library in New York.
